Head of Data
You need a data platform leader before you are ready to hire one. I set the roadmap with your leadership team, then the hiring plan and the metrics you run on, and hand them to whoever comes next.
What a fractional head of data does
The same job as a full-time head of data, for part of the week. I sit in your leadership meetings, own the data platform roadmap, make the calls that need a senior person to make them, and am accountable for the result. The difference is time, not seniority.
The first ninety days
- First month: the read. The same work as a Diagnostic, done from the inside. What runs, what it costs, who owns what, and where the numbers disagree.
- Second month: the plan. A roadmap your leadership team agrees to, the metrics the platform will be judged on, and a hiring plan for the team you actually need.
- Third month: the first moves. The fixes with the best return go in, and the first hires are in interviews.
How it ends
A fractional role is designed to end. The goal is a platform, a plan, and a team that a full-time leader can pick up on their first day. I help write the job description, sit in the interviews, and overlap with whoever you hire, so nothing is lost in the handoff.
When full-time is the better answer
If you already know exactly what the role needs and have the budget, hire full-time. A fractional leader earns their keep when the role is not yet clear, when you need decisions before you can recruit, or when the platform is small enough that five days a week would be too much.
Not sure which fits?
Thirty minutes, free. We will work out whether this is the right shape of engagement, or whether another one is.
